Arrival in Srinagar & Mughal Gardens

Your Kashmir journey begins the moment you step off the plane at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport and are greeted by your dedicated TRIPGULLAK representative. After a smooth check-in at your Srinagar hotel, the afternoon unfolds with a leisurely drive to the legendary Mughal Gardens strung along the banks of Dal Lake. Nishat Bagh — the Garden of Joy — cascades down twelve terraces of sculpted rose beds and fountains, with the Zabarwan Hills forming a dramatic backdrop. A short drive away, Shalimar Bagh, the 'Abode of Love' built by Emperor Jahangir for his queen Nur Jahan, enchants with its symmetrical Persian design. The intimate Cheshma Shahi, fed by a natural spring once reserved for Mughal royalty, offers a quieter pause. If time and energy allow, cap the evening at Shankaracharya Temple perched on a hilltop, where the city fans out below in a quilt of houseboats, chinars, and lake silver. Return to the hotel for a warm Kashmiri dinner — try the signature rogan josh or dum aloo — and an early rest ahead of an exciting second day.

Best Time to Visit

Spring (March–May): Orchards burst into blossom — almond, cherry, and apple — transforming the valley into a pastel dreamscape. Temperatures are mild (10–22°C), crowds are moderate. Ideal for first-time visitors and honeymooners. Summer (June–August): Peak season. Temperatures are pleasantly cool (15–28°C in Srinagar; much cooler in Gulmarg and Pahalgam). All passes and meadows are accessible; Sonmarg's glaciers fully open. Autumn (September–November): Hidden gem of Kashmir's calendar. Chinar trees explode in scarlet and copper; saffron blooms in Pampore (mid-October). Tourist numbers thin after mid-October, prices ease — best photography window. Winter (December–February): Gulmarg becomes one of Asia's top skiing destinations. Roads to Sonmarg and Pahalgam's upper reaches may close. For adventure seekers only. Honest Recommendation: Late September–October for finest balance of weather, colour, and value. July–August for families and school holidays. This package is valid 15th June to 15th November 2026.

Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar & Explore the Mughal Gardens

Your Kashmir journey begins when you arrive at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar.

After meeting your TripGullak representative and checking into your hotel, spend the afternoon exploring Srinagar's famous Mughal Gardens.

Nishat Bagh

Nishat Bagh is known for its landscaped terraces, fountains and views towards Dal Lake and the surrounding Zabarwan mountains.

Shalimar Bagh

Continue to Shalimar Bagh, another historic Mughal garden known for its symmetrical design and landscaped grounds.

Cheshma Shahi

If time permits, visit Cheshma Shahi, a smaller garden known for its natural spring.

You can also visit Shankaracharya Temple if time and energy allow. The hilltop location provides panoramic views over Srinagar and Dal Lake.

After sightseeing, return to your hotel for dinner and a relaxed evening.

Where you'll stay

The itinerary provides one night in Srinagar at Hotel Arison Luxury or a similar property, with breakfast included.

Day 2: Full-Day Excursion to Sonmarg

Day two takes you towards Sonmarg, one of Kashmir's most scenic mountain destinations.

Known as the "Meadow of Gold", Sonmarg is surrounded by dramatic Himalayan scenery and provides a completely different experience from Srinagar.

Spend the day enjoying the mountain landscape and exploring the destination at a relaxed pace.

Optional Thajiwas Glacier experience

The itinerary lists the Thajiwas Glacier excursion separately, meaning the associated union taxi or pony charges are not included in the package.

This is important to keep in mind when budgeting for the trip.

After your Sonmarg excursion, return to Srinagar.

Day 3: Srinagar to Pahalgam via the Saffron Fields

Day three marks the transition from Srinagar to Pahalgam.

The journey itself becomes part of the experience as you travel through the Kashmir Valley and the saffron-growing areas.

Pahalgam is one of Kashmir's most popular destinations, surrounded by forests, mountains and rivers.

Stay in Pahalgam

The itinerary includes two nights in Pahalgam at properties such as Hotel Walnut Creek or The Kudrat, or similar accommodation.

Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying the mountain surroundings.

Day 4: Explore Pahalgam's Valleys

Day four is dedicated to exploring the famous valleys around Pahalgam.

The itinerary focuses on:

  • Aru Valley

  • Betaab Valley

  • Chandanwari

Each offers a different perspective of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Aru Valley

Aru is known for its meadows, mountain scenery and peaceful atmosphere.

Betaab Valley

Betaab Valley is surrounded by lush green landscapes and dramatic mountain views.

Chandanwari

Chandanwari is an important point in the region and is known for its mountain scenery and connection with the Amarnath Yatra route.

The itinerary notes that union taxi charges for these areas are not included, so travellers should budget separately for the local transportation.

Return to Pahalgam after your sightseeing day.

Day 5: Pahalgam to Gulmarg & Gondola Experience

Day five takes you from Pahalgam to Gulmarg, one of Kashmir's most famous mountain resorts.

Gulmarg is known for its alpine scenery, winter sports and the famous Gulmarg Gondola.

The Gondola provides access to higher elevations and spectacular mountain views.

Important Gondola information

The Gondola tickets are not included in the TripGullak package.

The itinerary lists approximate prices of:

  • Phase 1: ₹810 per person

  • Phase 2: ₹1,000 per person

These prices can change, so travellers should verify the current rates before travelling.

Stay in Gulmarg

The package includes one night in Gulmarg at Hotel Pine Spring, Lupin or a similar property.

Day 6: Gulmarg to Srinagar Houseboat & Shikara Ride

After experiencing Gulmarg, return to Srinagar for one of the most memorable parts of the trip: a houseboat stay on Dal Lake.

The package includes one night in a Super Deluxe Houseboat in Srinagar.

Shikara Ride on Dal Lake

The itinerary also includes a 1-hour Shikara ride on Dal Lake.

A Shikara ride is one of the quintessential Kashmir experiences.

Glide across Dal Lake while taking in views of the surrounding mountains, houseboats and lakeside scenery.

The package also includes complimentary Shikara transfers to and from the houseboat.

Spend the evening relaxing on the houseboat and enjoying the unique atmosphere of Kashmir.

Best Time to Visit Kashmir

Kashmir offers something different in every season.

Spring: March to May

Spring brings blooming orchards and mild temperatures.

The itinerary describes temperatures around 10–22°C in this period and considers spring a good option for first-time visitors and honeymooners.

Summer: June to August

Summer is the peak travel season.

Srinagar generally remains pleasant, while Gulmarg and Pahalgam are considerably cooler.

This can be a good choice for families travelling during school holidays.

Autumn: September to November

Autumn is one of Kashmir's most visually spectacular seasons.

The landscape changes as the Chinar trees develop their characteristic red and copper colours.

The itinerary particularly recommends late September to October for a balance of weather, scenery and value.

Winter: December to February

Winter transforms Gulmarg into a major skiing destination.

However, road access to Sonmarg and upper areas of Pahalgam can be affected by snow.

What to Pack for Kashmir

Kashmir's weather can change significantly between locations and elevations, so layered clothing is essential.

Pack:

  • Valid photo ID

  • Warm layers

  • Waterproof and windproof jacket

  • Comfortable walking or trekking shoes

  • Sandals for the houseboat

  • Modest clothing for temple visits

  • Thermal innerwear for colder months

  • SPF 50+ sunscreen

  • UV-protection sunglasses

  • Small daypack

  • Power bank

  • Prescription medicines

  • Sufficient Indian currency

  • Light fleece

  • Insect repellent

  • Small torch or headlamp

The itinerary also recommends downloading an offline map because connectivity can be inconsistent in some parts of Kashmir.

Kashmir 7-Day Trip Cost Considerations

The TripGullak itinerary currently uses Request Quote rather than publishing a fixed package price.

Your final cost can depend on factors such as:

  • Hotel category

  • Number of travellers

  • Vehicle type

  • Travel dates

  • Optional activities

  • Gondola tickets

  • Local union taxi charges

  • Pony rides

  • Applicable taxes

The itinerary supports 1–10 travellers, with vehicle categories ranging from a sedan for two people to an Innova for four to six people and a Tempo Traveller for larger groups.

Is 7 Days Enough for Kashmir?

For a first trip, seven days is a good amount of time to experience several of Kashmir's major destinations.

This itinerary combines:

Srinagar + Sonmarg + Pahalgam + Gulmarg + Dal Lake Houseboat

That gives you a mix of:

  • Mughal gardens

  • Lakes

  • Mountains

  • Meadows

  • Valleys

  • Gondola experiences

  • Houseboat stays

  • Shikara rides

Rather than spending the entire trip in one location, you get to experience several different sides of Kashmir.
